Downtown Atlanta just got a whole lot more fun. Yes, Six Flags over Georgia is here. Yes, the World of Coca-Cola is minutes within reach. It’s true, we do have the Centennial Olympic Park that was home to the 1996 Olympics and we do have The Georgia Aquarium that has over 120,000 marine animal and is ranked as the top aquarium in the U.S.
But it gets better, July 9th was the launch of Relay, a bike sharing program in Downtown Atlanta that allows you to get from one place to another effortlessly, while getting a little exercising in and enjoying the wonderful sights in the area. Best of all, there’s a bike hub one block down the road from the Ellis Hotel!
With Atlanta’s citywide Bike Share Program, Relay Bike Share, you have instant access to everything that’s around you. It’s good for you, good for the environment and good for your wallet. Without having to rent a car, or catch the bus or metro you are able to experience the fullness of what Downtown has to offer without the hassle of traffic, or waiting for public transportation or the cost of having to rent a car for the week.
About the Bike Share Program
Relay Bike Share offers four membership programs. The base payment plan is ‘pay as you go’ and it is $8 per every sixty minutes, at a prorated rate. This plan is fantastic for out of town guests and visitors and out of town guests. For extended guests, membership plans are available for $15 a month and $25 a month which allow for a sixty and ninety-minute ride every day. You are free to book as you would like and cancel as you would like. As a bonus, when you sign up for your membership, you receive a coupon to receive thirty percent off a Bern helmet. Very safety-forward, Relay Bike Share has put every step in place to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable ride.
Once you’ve purchased your membership and are ready to ride, just download the Social Bicycle app, select a location to pick the bike up, and enjoy your ride. You are able to pick up and drop off at any bike share location in Downtown Atlanta; however, you do get credits for picking up bikes that are not in a hub location and bringing them back home, so it pays to go the extra mile.
Atlanta Attractions to Explore on Your Ride
Explore Woodruff Park and experience the fountains and beautiful six acres that it has to offer. If you’re looking to sample some of the best local flavors, bike on over to Broad Street – just one block away from the Ellis Hotel! Recent years have brought life to Broad Street with more than a dozen restaurants, food trucks and an emerging art scene. Try a fish taco from the Tacqueria on Broad, or some of the best Vietnamese food in town at Dua Vietnamese.
One of the best places to visit in Downtown Atlanta can be done through the Bike Share program — the Sweet Auburn Market. Known as “The Curb Market” to the locals, the Sweet Auburn Market is located in the original Municipal Market building and houses twenty-four individual companies, including a full-service bakery, a bookstore, pharmacy, produce and meat merchants and some of the most popular and successful eateries in the city. This is not something that you want to miss and it is definitely an experience of a lifetime. The Curb Market is located on Edgewood Avenue, right along the Atlanta BeltLine, and is open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm and on Sundays from noon to 5pm, but it is important to remember that some merchants have operating hours within The Curb Market’s hours and these hours may fluctuate. Take all of that into consideration prior to going.
There are so many things to do in Downtown Atlanta but the Bike Share program is definitely making it a lot easier to not just stay active, but to also get around the city seamlessly in a manner that is good for the environment and also cost effective for you. You have the ability to pick up and drop off bikes at ten stations that are within walking distance of the Ellis Hotel so you are never stuck, and there’s always something you can do at each station or just go out to enjoy yourself and the weather. It’s such a wonderful way to meet people and to also get to know Atlanta. While riding bikes, you get to enjoy our city on a more intimate level because everything instantly seems a lot closer. You don’t get this experience when you’re traveling in cars, but now, with Relay Bike Share, you can have that personal experience throughout your entire stay with us.
We cannot wait to see you.
